PATU CLUBS
The more common handheld weapons , or patu , above , were wooden , stone or in exceptional cases , greenstone or pounamu . These are used as a club with the sometimes indented edge facing the enemy . ( Note : most of the timber used un the production of patus is now protected in New Zealand . Some timber is sourced from stumps and other Islands , particularly in the Samoan and Solomon Groups .
Patus make attractive display artifacts on stands and may be kept in plain view .
Patus are formidable spanking implements .
