These probably rival the cane as a symbol of domestic corporal punishment . They come in many shapes and sizes and are made from a variety of materials . A heavy wooden hairbrush can be an awesome weapon . They must be brought down parallel to the bottom or the end may bruise the skin , leaving " tip " marks . The most popular position is over the knee , although the larger ones can be used in the bending over position ( see POSITIONS ) .
Hairbrushes with sharp square corners should be avoided .
Larger hairbrushes ( say 10 inches plus ) are difficult to find , but do turn up in second hand and op shops .
Sterling silver ones can make a fashion statement , but the handles are weak and the backing for the bristles may crack with use .

( This one not recommended for bare bottoms , it has sharp edges and raised relief

( This is a classic wood style . )
( These " Paddle " style ones tend to split down the middle . This
most likely is the type used and split when the model Mimi MacPherson
was reportedly
spanked by her Mother . We have repaired several of these by lifting part of the
bristle cushion , placing an epoxy mixture over the inside of the wood and
clamped together . The
cushion is reglued after the epoxy is set . Another stopgap is to drill a small
hole at the end of a short split . The hole and the split is then filled with
epoxy cement .
These brushes are relatively inexpensive and old or purposely weakened ones can be used to create the dramatic effect of breaking during use .
Be careful of the corners and splits during use , they can cause unnecessary marks etc . )
This one is about 12 inches long and very effective to use .
Its handle is not too big for a ladies hand to hold .

" I would like to know generally how long it usually takes for hairbrush spanking marks and welts to disappear . Will they usually go away within a couple of days ? Can you give me a general idea ? I will be the recipient of a hard hairbrush spanking from a professional Dominatrix this Friday and my spouse will return from a business trip late Monday evening . These factors include :

How strong the individuals small veins ( capillaries ) are and the thickness of their blood ( e.g. aspirin will thin the blood ) .

Preparation , see : BEFORE AND AFTER A SPANKING . Having a warm up prior the the main spanking will reduce bruising and increase tolerance .

Wearing tight shorts may reduce damage and a noticeable " bald spot " in your bottom hair .

Avoid over stretching the skin , generally the angle between upper and lower body should be over 100 degrees .

The skill of the " professional Dominatrix " you will be seeing ( see : WHICH AREA OF THE BOTTOM SHOULD BE SPANKED ) and her ability to vary the force , angle and impact area .

If there is any doubt about the level of bruising , stop and examine the damage , before continuing .

Follow the advice on the BEFORE AND AFTER A SPANKING Page about reducing swelling etc . The sooner that the " massage " is done , the better . It is too late to substantially repair bruises once they have " set " .

Finally , avoid using a small hairbrush , or one with sharp edges or corners . Larger clothes brushes etc. may be a better alternative ( see : HAIRBRUSHES and JOKARI PADDLES ) .
The results " ....... it went well , she obviously knew what she was doing , I was as red as chopped meat but no welts , bruises or marks . She used a larger brush which really stung but did not leave marks . She also warmed me up well by hand before introducing the brush . "
